The best one is still to come
Craftsmanship is what I am worship.
Adoring what I am making, mindfully practicing of making skills on each every piece of work and always seeking the improvement, these lead me to be a better potter.
The craftsmanship is building up on everyday physical and mind practice and training.
In years of throwing hundreds mugs, cups, bowls and vases, the same amount clay is growing bigger and nicer in time. The wall is becoming evener and taller and the amount of clay requires trimming off is reducing. This is a constantly change of my work. The fingers feel and control clay better.
For one specific design, the more I am making, the more skilful I am at making it.
In the meanwhile, the more time I have spent on thinking about improving the design, function, making process and methods to reduce the failing rate.
The handle for mugs now is wide flat for more secure hold and reducing the pressure on the finger contact point, thus more comfortable to carry. While looking back to my old days mug handles, they are round and thin. They are totally function as handles to hold the mug from. However, they are not the most comfortable handles at all. In the future, the handle may change shape again into something even better.
Improvements will happen naturally with the mindfully making and mindfully making only.
Making a thousand of the same cups only because have to or it is beautiful, without considering who it is used by; how it is used, what it is used for and where it is used; the cup is not cup made with love and caring. It is no different to a mass produced cup from factory.
